Goverment Public Libraries in Tamilnadu a Pathetic truth.

Those who have tried to venture into our government public libaries in tamilnadu will agree to me, when i say they are not so well kept.
First the lack of maintanance will blow you out if at all you try to go into one. Most of the libraries are not even visible to your eye when you pass by.
Secondly the most important point, you can not find many popular writer’s works. this is because, they library commitee which buys books from tamil publishers for public library is not so unbiased. (the rest gose unsaid)
So you can find all the non sense books instead of realy worthy ones that would be helful for any one.
For example,All chennaities can see the drastic difference between the British council library and the district library, both in the same campus.

CAMPUS GREENING

4200 Colleges and Universtities in US have more than 17 million enrolled students for a go green campaign called: Campus Greening.
The first EARTH DAY in 1970 inspired student groups, staff and faculty to begin greening campuses.
Their moto is, ‘If colleges and universities improve their environmental performance dramatically and if they have a long term in flunence on chocies made by gradutaes in their work, homes and communities, the collective effect could be vast.’
While their agenda is consistent with -Doing the right thing, locally and globally.

What do they do in Campus greening?

- prospective students are interested in the environment, so green campus maps and green tours are offered.
- More walking and biking which results in healthy lifestyle.
- conserving water yeilds multiple savings: lower water bills, reduced sewer charges and decreased energy costs.

These eco friendly colleges use vibrant environmental programs and uses the campus as a learning laboratory connecting students to nature through campus feild trips, discussions of environmental values and hands on projects.
They also have greening examples for enhancing course work, for example students in economics learn cost- benefit analysis by assesing alternative flooring choices and then have the satisfaction of seeing their work affect university decision.Thus the growing concern about climate change informs many campus activities. Hope India too follows such campus activities with a environmental value based mind and aptitude.

The number of pirate CDs sold around the world rises to 1.1bn says a news report.
In India we have a huge market for the pirated cds - both movies and music cds.
One main reason for the success of this illegal business is the high cost of the international DVDs and CDs .
Where as there is also a big market for the pirated film cds for India n new movies too.This is because the high priced movie ticket rates in the multiplexes in the cities. The minimum cost for a middle class family of 4 to watch a movie in the theaters would sum up to Rs.500/-Most of the theaters in chennai sells a ticket for rs.150/- to rs.170/-
Nowadays with the low cost original cds and dvds from companies like Moser baer helps in the reduction of the pirated cds.
It is a welcoming change.

School kids bribed by unscrupulous politicians

I was shocked to hear a principal of a popular school in chennai lament at the deprived conditions of today’s lower income youths.
He told me that many boys after completing their 12th,are targeted by local politicians ( by politicians i mean the corrupt,money minded ones). These youngsters who belong to very low income group with no family support fall prey to the valueless, fancy ideas and corrupted activities of the politicians.
When a guy dose not finds a good job or a nice college degree (just after their school education) these politicians approach them and give them pocket money and so develops their evil friendship.
In few days these boys are given visiting cards that holds their name and their supporting political party! so now on they belong to that party... obviously these young men don’t even know what they are into. The boys are happy now, for they get daily around 150 to 200 rupees! and they are supported by a political party,they can do anything now.
But in reality, these boys are used by the politicians for criminal activities, at times they are the scape goats when some one in the party dose a crime - these young men are ready to accept the crime and go to prison. Obviously these young minds will be addicted to all social evils like drugs,murder, etc.
And suddenly a college goer turns into a antisocial element.
This is a true fact and is happening to many high school kids at every nook and corner of India, and these young men keep loosing their future to one political party or another.
These politicians who are supposed to work for the welfare of these young men instead they seem to be the ones who are killing their future.
Since they do not have any family values,economic independence or healthy social outlook , the young men don’t realize that they are loosing their life.
Few of them realize this fact but it would have been too late.
The principal who spoke to me was almost in tears when he said,you see we teachers are trying our best to make good citizens out of these boys but still even boys with good grades and soft aptitude tend to disgrace themselves and spoil their life by such unethical conduct. There is nothing else to blame other than circumstance.
But i kept thinking is this just circumstantial?

How positive can you be?
I was reading ‘The dairy of a young girl’ by Anne frank, today.
It inspired me a lot, made me more positive.
In todays world being positive is very important.
There r so many negative people around us,ready to pull us back from our growth.I personally have met so many of such negative people.
First I was not comfortable handling them but after while i got used to them and understood their motive and weakness, all that was possible only through confidence and positive but realistic and powerful views. I feel apart from being good, we need to be smart too.
So i learned even when we r pushed to our limits,We still have to hold on to our hopes and trust and be motivated, or else we can’t survive in this society in a straight way.
Those who win - do take risks and make progress in life, they keep changing.
We can face all the odds of the world with our positive aptitude.
This belief of mine was elevated more after reading that book today.

A Tamil Tv channel that says no to films

Makkal Tv a Tamil regional television channel, is an interesting channel for all those folks who are bored with just the usual film programs and dragging serials.
This channel keenly promotes the Tamil language and telecasts really useful programs such as career guidance, business matters,children programs ...The channel dose not telecasts any commercial film (except for very few awarded world cinemas),or film related programs.No star interviews, no film reviews, no top ten count down shows, no film award shows! So in a way this channel is informative and unique from rest of the other channels in Tamilnadu.When most of the other Tamil satellite channels are busy competing one another in showing latest movies,gossips and most of the programs are film related and no way informative, this sort of a channel like Makkal Tv is a welcoming sign for a good media growth. Hope the rest of the channels can also hare this sort of a healthy spirit for the sake of the younger generation.

Fighting crows halt trains in INDIA

A weird news article report says, Train services were disrupted in parts of eastern India(Patna) for three hours after flocks of agitated crows snapped overhead power lines, when railway workers tried to clear their nests, officials said on Monday.

They said crows and ravens often flapped their wings so hard while fighting that they tripped railway powerlines in eastern Bihar state. To solve the problem, rail staff tried to clear nests built on overhead wires on Sunday.

But this agitated the birds so much and they flapped their wings so furiously that it caused a short-circuit.At least a dozen passenger trains were stranded while the nest clearing operation went on.

India’s vast rail network carries more than 15 million people every day on some 7,000 passenger trains.

India tea region strike resumes

An indefinite strike called by a regional political party has resumed in India’s tea-producing Darjeeling hills.

The strike - called by the regional Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM)- was halted for a few days last week to allow tourists to leave.

It was also stopped to allow the shopkeepers to stock up on essentials. The strike resumed late on Monday.
